FROM THE FRONT LINES: VOICES OF VIRGINIA’S AGENCY-DIRECTED PERSONAL CARE PROVIDERS
Virginia’s agency-directed personal care providers are a critical part of our communities. These caregivers are a lifeline for Virginians who choose to receive community-based care instead of institutionalized care. They enable recipients to participate in activities of daily living (ADLs), remain medically stable and stay connected in their communities, which is beneficial for physical and emotional health. Read their stories below.
“I would not ever turn down a need if I can fill it. It is part of who I am. I am so fulfilled by my job when clients tell me, ‘I am so glad you’re here, I trust you with everything I got, I don’t worry when you are here.’ That is all I can ask for in a job – and I know I am truly making a difference in the lives of our clients.”
Linda Taylor, Pulaski
“I love my job because of the people I meet. I love to help my clients and I also love to learn from them. Recently, I was working for a client whose degree was in history and had a special interest in WW2. It was so enlightening to learn new historic facts from her.” Mariama Mansaray, Alexandria
“Caregiving is in my nature and I have a passion for helping others. I’m fulfilled by doing my best to ensure the safety, happiness, and health of my clients, and building relationships with my clients and their family to assure them that their loved ones are in good caring hands.” Brandi Strickland, Newport News
